Lady Eagles Host UAB, Begin Conference Play
The Southern Miss volleyball team hosts its first conference match when UAB comes to Hattiesburg this Friday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. The match will be played in the Payne Center, on the Southern Miss campus.
The Lady Eagles (8-7) are coming off a 3-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana, last Tuesday, Sept. 24, and are looking to continue their winning ways, as well as a victory in their first Conference USA match of the season.
UAB (5-10) started the season with a four-match losing streak and winning two of its first 10. However, the Blazers have claimed recent success with three wins in their last five matches and bring a two-match winning streak into Friday?s contest.
Andrea Bush leads the Lady Eagles with 241 kills, a 4.16 per-game average. Crystal Zane leads in assists with 565, and Bridget Files is the block leader with 67 total blocks. Nicki Tribble ranks on top of the team with 160 digs.
Martina Shields is the attack leader for UAB, claiming 170 kills. Dina Katsoulis claims 324 assists to lead the Blazers in that category. Karen Boyd?s 21 blocks is the team best, and Sheilds and Breanna Swenson share the team lead with 97 digs apiece.
Following Friday?s match, the Lady Eagles travel to Texas and face TCU on Friday, Oct. 4, and Houston on Saturday, Oct. 5.
