Lady Eagles Sweep Southeastern Louisiana in Three
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Lady Eagle volleyball team played at home for only the fourth time this season, sweeping Southeastern Louisiana in three straight games, 3-0 (30-22, 30-24, 30-19), improving to 8-7 on the season. Southeastern Louisiana dropped to 7-5.
Juniors Andrea Bush and Bridget Files led the Lady Eagles with 16 and 12 kills, respectively. Nicki Tribble added eight kills and had a team-high 16 digs. Denise Kubena led the Lady Lions with seven kills and 14 digs.
"I thought we came out very aggressive tonight," Head Coach Santiago Restrepo said. "We have worked hard the past couple of days, trying to get back on track. It was a good team effort tonight."
Southern Miss took control of game one behind the hitting of Bush and Files, combining for 11 of the 19 kills, leading the Lady Eagles to a 30-22 win. The Eagles had five hitting errors, finishing the game with a .304 hitting percentage.
The Lady Lions kept game two closer, committing only hitting errors in 36 attempts. Tribble and Bush produced much of the offense with five and six kills, respectively. Southern Miss took game two, 30-24.
Southeastern fought back in game three, taking the lead several times during game, but the Eagles used an aggressive defense to get back into the match. Southern Miss took the lead for good, 20-19, ending the match with a 9-2 run for a 30-19 victory.
The Lady Eagles return to action Friday, Sept. 27, opening Conference USA play against UAB. First serve is set for 7 p.m., in the Payne Center.
