Southern Miss Volleyball Team Split Matches at Denver Tourney
DENVER, Colo. ? The Lady Eagles defeated host Denver, 3-1, in their opening match of the day and fell in straight games to Fresno State, completing their competition in the Pioneer Classic.
Andrea Bush led all Southern Miss hitters with 22 kills against Denver. The team recorded a .231 hitting percentage, while forcing the Pioneers to hit a .199 percentage.
Denver won the first game, 30-25, but Southern Miss recovered by winning the final three ? 30-28, 30-24, 30-28, forcing the Pioneers to go to 0-6 on the year.
Nicki Tribble recorded 16 kills, and Bridget Files finished the opener with 10 kills. Crystal Zane claimed 34 assists, and Amy Truong registered 20 assists.
The Lady Eagles claimed 31 hitting errors and eight service errors against Fresno State. Game one finished 30-24, in favor of the Bulldogs, as Southern Miss claimed 13 hitting error and only nine kills in the opening frame. FSU won game two, 30-26, and finished strong with a 30-16 win in game three, improving to 9-1 on the season.
Tribble claimed the high mark for Southern Miss with 12 kills. Files finished with nine.
Southern Miss is now 6-5 on the year. The Lady Eagles travel to face New Orleans on Wed., Sept. 18, at 7 p.m.
