Lady Eagles Win Opening Volleyball Match
LAKE CHARLES, La. ? The Southern Miss volleyball squad collected a 3-0 win against Prairie View in its opening match of the McNeese State Cowgirl Classic. It was the first time since 1999 the Lady Eagles opened a season with a victory.
Andrea Bush led the Lady Eagles with 15 kills. She recorded a .424 attack percentage with only one hitting error. Bridget Files finished with 12 kills and a team-best 12 digs.
Despite committing eight service errors, Southern Miss had little difficulty defeating the Panthers in straight games ? 30-18, 30-12, 30-15. Prairie View was limited to a .000 hitting percentage in the final two games, recording a combined 14 kills and 14 hitting errors.
Crystal Zane collected 38 of the teams 46 assists. Amy Truong and Brynn Olsson each finished with 10 digs.
Southern Miss continues competing in the Cowgirl Classic, facing Louisiana-Lafayette this evening, at 7 p.m.
