Lady Eagle Volleyball Team Opens Season at Cowgirl Roundup
The Lady Eagles embark on a yet another season with rule changes, new faces, and a new position making for a challenging season. Southern Miss opens the season at the McNeese Cowgirl Roundup Invitational, Aug. 30-31. In the last 16 seasons, Southern Miss has opened the season 11 times with a tournament. The Lady Eagles own a 4-7 record in season-opening tournament matches.
Southern Miss returns five starters from last year's team that posted a 9-19 record and finished 11th in Conference USA. Leading the way is the lone senior Crystal Zane, who finished the 2001 season with 1,138 assists. Also returning are juniors Andrea Bush and Bridget Files who recorded 281 and 290 kills, respectively. Nicki Tribble was second on the team in aces.
Southern Miss has played Prairie View two times, owning a 2-0 record against the Panthers. The Lady Eagles have a 7-19 record againt UL-Lafayette, 4-3 against McNeese and 15-10 against Jackson State.
Following the tournament, the Lady Eagles return home, Sept. 3, against South Alabama.
