Southern Miss Signs Soccer Standout
Hattiesburg, Miss. ? Southern Miss Head Soccer Coach Matt Clark announced the third signee of the 2002 signing class.
Midfielder Katie McClary of Collinsville, Ill., signed a national letter-of-intent to play for Southern Miss. McClary is the third signee of the second signing class in the Clark era, joining fellow freshmen Micah Stephens and Chelsey Brown.
McClary was a four-year letterwinner at Collinsville High School. As a senior, she was named to the all-state, all-conference and all-area teams. She was also the all-area most valuable player. McClary played club soccer for Collinsville United.
"Katie is a hard-working midfielder who is known for her tenacity," Clark said. "She plays well on both the attack and on defense."
McClary also earned three letters in basketball, garnering all-conference and all-sectional honors.
The Lady Eagles finished the 2001 season with a 9-7 overall record, the third-straight winning season in the program's short five-year history.
