Brown and Martin Receive Academic Honors

Amanda Brown holds a 3.90 GPA as a biology major

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss softball players Amanda Brown and Kristie Martin were named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VI team, as voted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Brown is a first-team academic all-district member, with a 3.90 grade point average as a biology major. The junior has been a regular starter in the outfield for the Lady Eagles and is batting .270 with three home runs, 23 runs scored and 15 RBI.

This is Martin?s second appearance on the academic all-district team, as she was a member of the 2001 team. She is a second-team performer with a 3.755 GPA in architectural engineering technology. The senior has been a solid defensive performer at third base this season, with a league-best 130 assist, a .983 fielding percentage and only three errors.
