Boyd, who was one of the top C-USA performers in league games, led the conference with five home runs in conference action. Gant, who was a first-team all-conference performer last season, was one of the best defensive shortstops in the league with a .964 fielding percentage and only seven errors this season.
DePaul pitcher Lindsay Chouinard was named C-USA Pitcher of the Year, and the Blue Demons? second basemen Liz Bouck received C-USA Player of the Year honors, as both performers led their squad to its second-consecutive regular season title.
UAB?s Marla Townsend was named C-USA Coach of the Year after guiding her program to a school-record 36 wins and a third-place conference finish in the regular season.
All awards were chosen by the C-USA?s nine head coaches and were announced at the league?s pre-tournament banquet. The 2002 Conference USA Tournament will take place May 9-11 at the University of South Florida?s Softball Complex.
The Lady Eagles (26-33 overall, 15-8 in the league) are a second seed in the competition, receiving a bye for the first round. They will face the winner of UAB-East Carolina at 2:30 p.m. (CST) on Thursday, May 9. The game will be featured on a ?live stats? broadcast on SouthernMiss.com
The championship game will be televised on May 11 on Comcast Charter Southeast (Channel 21 on Comcast Cable in Hattiesburg, Miss.).
