Southern Miss' Winningham Out 4-6 Weeks
"Allen has had a tremendous year for us this season, and we will miss not having him in the lineup," Palmer said. "He has put up outstanding numbers offensively and has done a good job in the field as well. He has been a fine leader to the younger members of the infield. We will replace him with another true freshman, Beau Griffin, a young man with a lot of potential."
Winningham is currently hitting .366 with 19 doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 34 RBIs and eight stolen bases. He is leading the team in batting average and doubles and is tied for second in home runs and third in stolen bases. He has an on-base percentage of .484 and has 109 total bases for a slugging percentage of .596. Winningham has 19 multiple-hit games and eight multiple-RBI games.
In Conference USA statistics, he is first in doubles, tied for first in hit by pitch, fourth in on-base percentage and runs, eighth in batting average, total bases and hits and ninth in slugging percentage.
He and teammate, Griff Israel, hold the school's single-season hit by pitch record, being hit 16 times this season. He also tied a school record, hitting three home runs in the first game of the three-game Conference USA series at TCU on March 15, 2002.
