Lady Eagles Knock Out Bulls at C-USA Tournament

Channika Gant went two-for-three with a run scored and two RBI. Laura Davis was one-of-three with a run scored and two RBI.
The Bulls claimed a 3-0 lead in the first inning, after Stephanie Roberts crossed the plate off an illegal pitch by starting pitcher Felicia Gonzales and Renee Oursler?s two-RBI single with the bases loaded.
The Lady Eagles scored all seven runs in the second inning, ignited by Davis? single to left center that scored Gant and Kenya Peters. Amanda Brown walked with the bases loaded, scoring Laura Smith and tying the game, 3-3. Heather Bell followed with a free pass to first, scoring Davis for the go-ahead run.
Tammy Edwards collected an RBI off her single through the left side, scoring Kristie Martin, and Gant doubled to end the second-inning scoring, allowing Bell and Brown to go home.
Jessica Holaway relieved Gonzales in the bottom of the second, picking up the win and improving to 14-13 on the year. She gave up one run in the fourth and five hits and two walks overall.
Niki Trowell (9-13) got the loss for South Florida (24-33-1). She went 1.1 innings and gave up five runs on three hits and two walks.
Southern Miss (27-34) advances in the league tournament to face Louisville this evening at 5 p.m. (CST).
