The Cardinals (27-28) owned a 3-0 lead, scoring all three runs in the bottom of the third. Kenzi Meisenburg scored Shannon Nord to ignite Louisville?s run production. Keola Calderon singled to left to plate Keisenburg, and Nicole Sparks singled down the left field line, scoring Calderon.
Sarah Boyd singled up the middle to start the top of the fifth. She advanced to second on Laura Smith?s sacrifice bunt and went to third on Laura Davis? single through the left side. Kristie Martin put down a sacrifice bunt and then reached first, when first basemen Aja Sherman mishandled the throw from third base.
With the bases loaded, Amanda Brown stroked a grounder through the left side of the infield, scoring Boyd and keeping the bases juiced. Heather Bell placed the ball deep in center field and received a sacrifice fly, allowing pinch runner Chrissy King to go home.
With Brown on second and Martin on third, Edwards pounced on a 3-2 pitch and sent the ball over the left field fence, about 5-to-10 feet inside the foul pole, putting the Lady Eagles up 5-3.
Jessica Holaway (15-13) got her second win on the day. The sophomore surrendered three runs on six hits and one walk, fanning six.
Jessica Rak (23-14) gave up only one earned run on six hits and two walks, punching out two.
Tomorrow?s game will be a rematch for Southern Miss (28-34) and UAB, as the Blazers defeated the Lady Eagles 6-0 in the first round of the tournament.
The winner will face DePaul in the championship game, scheduled to start at 2 p.m. The championship game will be televised on Comcast Charter Sports (Channel 21 in Hattiesburg).
