Eagles One Practice Away From Spring Game
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Only a Thursday practice stands between Southern Miss' football Golden Eagles and the annual Black & Gold spring game Saturday at 1 p.m., in Roberts Stadium, and, with that game, the end of spring practice.
Head Coach Jeff Bower says a review of last Saturday's scrimmage confirmed the coaching staff's early assessment that the workout was a good one. "We had another good workout today, as well," said Bower. "And I think the scrimmage Saturday just further illustrated that we have some good competition going on at a number of positions.
"We're working some co-ones at some offensive positions, but we didn't make any position changes after the scrimmage, and that's maybe a little unusual for us. We're still far ahead of where we were at this time last season. We've put in more of our schemes, offensively and defensively, and should be able to pick up in the fall where we leave off in this spring."
The squad will not work Wednesday, but will practice again Thursday, take Friday off, and then put the finishing touches on spring work with EagleFest and the accompanying spring game, Saturday at 1 p.m., in Roberts Stadium. Southern Miss opens the 2002 season Aug. 31, at home, against Jackson State.
