Lady Eagles Lose Final Game Against DePaul
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The Southern Miss softball team suffered its third loss against No. 18 DePaul this weekend, as the Blue Demons (36-8 overall, 17-1 in C-USA) pulled off a 3-0 victory today. The Lady Eagles (25-30, 14-7) have now lost eight-straight games and experienced the first time in history losing three-straight games in a Conference USA series.
Lindsay Chouinard (19-3) pitched her second shutout of the weekend, giving up one hit and two walks, while striking out eight.
Three Blue Demons finished the game hitting two-for-three each. Liz Bouck claimed the feat, with an RBI, as did April Valdez, who stroked two doubles and claimed two runs scored, and Katy Kukman, who finished with a run and an RBI.
Facing a 0-0 tie in the top of the fifth, Kukman allowed Valdez to score from second base on a single to right center. Kukman eventually got to third, by way of a ground out and a wild pitch, and then scored on Bouck?s infield single, giving DePaul a 2-0 lead.
Valdez doubled and scored again in the seventh, when leftfielder Erinne Milligan mishandled Kukman?s single.
Jessica Holaway (12-10) gave up two earned runs on six hits. This was only the sophomore?s third loss in conference play, as she claims a 6-3 record against C-USA teams. Kenya Peters finished the game hitting one-for-three.
Southern Miss holds its final home date this Tuesday, April 30, hosting No. 19 Louisiana-Lafayette in a doubleheader at 5 p.m. A special recognition will be held for seniors Channika Gant, Felicia Gonzales, Kristie Martin and Kenya Peters, as this will be their last home games in Lady Eagle uniforms.
