Channika Gant Named Co-Hitter of the Week

Channika Gant batted .538 for the week.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? Senior Channika Gant was named Co-Hitter of the Week today by the Conference USA office. The shortstop from Vicksburg, Miss., hit .538 (7-for-13) in last week?s four games, including a 6-for-11 performance in the Lady Eagles? three-game sweep over East Carolina. Gant shared the honor with Cliffanie Engram of UAB.

In the series against the Pirates, Gant scored the winning run in the first game and notched the game-winning RBI in games two and three. She posted two doubles, one triple, five RBIs and three runs scored for the week. Gant currently holds a five-game hitting streak.

Southern Miss (25-22 overall) ranks second in Conference USA with a 14-4 league record. The Lady Eagles follow DePaul, at 12-1, in conference play. The Blue Demons will be coming to Hattiesburg for a three-game conference series on April 26-27, with a doubleheader at noon, on Saturday, April 26, and a single game at 1 p.m., on Sunday, April 27.

The Lady Eagles host No. 15 Alabama in a single game on Wednesday, April 17, at 5 p.m. They travel to No. 5 LSU for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 18, at 5:30 p.m.
