Nix and Tucker Invited To 2003 Senior Bowl
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss running back Derrick Nix and offensive lineman Torrin Tucker have been invited to participate in the 2003 Senior Bowl Presented by Food World on Sat., Jan. 18, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., starting at 1 p.m.
Nix has rushed for 1,194 yards on 219 carries, an average of 5.5 yards a carry this season and has scored 11 touchdowns. He is averaging 108.5 yards a game rushing and has accumulated 1,332 yards of all-purpose yardage. He leads the Golden Eagles in scoring with 66 points, averaging 6.0 points a game.
Nix has accumulated 3,584 yards rushing in his career and needs 12 yards to become Southern Miss' all-time rushing leader and 53 yards to become the Conference USA all-time rushing leader. He is third on Southern Miss' single-season rushing chart and needs 43 yards to surpass the No. 2 position held by Ben Garry with 1,236 rushing yards in 1976.
He has had 14 100-yard rushing performances, second place on the Southern Miss career list. He owns the school's career rushing attempts record with 768. He also has 31 career rushing touchdowns, third place on the Southern Miss and Conference USA rushing touchdown career chart. He also has 4,114 career all-purpose yards, placing him in second place on the school's all-time chart.
Tucker is a four-year starter on the Southern Miss offensive line at the strong-side guard position. He has started in 39 games over his career, second most on the offensive line. For the 2002 season, he has given up 5.5 sacks in 311 plays and has 14 pin blocks.
Southern Miss has had 62 former standout players participate in the Senior Bowl since 1950, ranking among the top schools in sending players to the event.
