Lady Eagles Win Third Straight, Second-Straight C-USA Match
CHICAGO, Ill. ? The Southern Miss volleyball team defeated DePaul, 3-2, to claim its third-straight win, as well as their second-straight Conference USA road victory.
The Lady Eagles (13-9 overall, 4-2 in C-USA) used a marathon victory in game four, 36-34, to knot up the match and claimed a 15-12 game-five win to record its third league victory on the road this season. DePaul (5-17, 1-5) won game one, 30-26, Southern Miss responded with a game-two win, 30-23, and the Blue Demons went ahead in game three, 30-27.
Andrea Bush collected 30 kills to lead the Lady Eagles this evening, concluding with a double-double by adding 13 digs. An impressive defensive effort was displayed as five Lady Eagles recorded double-figure digs. Crystal Zane, who also finished with 59 assists, led USM with 20 digs.
Serving helped Southern Miss as well, as the Lady Eagles collected 15 aces. Amy Truong, who also tallied 10 kills, and Bridget Files shared the ace lead with four apiece. Files finished the game with nine kills and 16 digs.
Nicki Tribble recorded 17 kills and 10 digs, Brynn Olsson added 11 digs and Jazzmien Stephens collected six kills and no hitting errors on 15 attacks for a .400 hitting percentage.
Kate Engel, who recorded 34 kills and 28 digs, led the Blue Demons. Lara Marks and Janet Cotter each collected 16 kills.
Southern Miss comes home to face C-USA foe Louisville on Friday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. The match will be played in the Payne Center.
