Southern Miss Recognizes Student-Athletes For Excellence In Classroom
The University of Southern Mississippi has recognized a total of 122 student-athletes for outstanding academic effort during the recently completed fall semester.
Twelve student-athletes were named to the President?s List, which recognizes students who achieve a perfect 4.0 grade point average on at least 12 hours of course work for a semester. There were also 74 student-athletes named to the Dean?s List, which recognizes students for a 3.25 or better on a minimum of 12 hours of course work. Thirty-six others were named to the Athletic Director?s Honor Roll, which recognizes student-athletes who achieve at least a 3.0 grade point average for the semester.
?Our athletes as well as those who provide them support both in and out of the classroom are to be congratulated for another outstanding academic performance,? said Athletic Director Richard Giannini. ?Our academic support staff, along with our coaches and athletic administrators continue to place a high priority on success in the classroom, and the results we continue to achieve reflect favorably on the athletic department in particular as well as the entire university.?
Broken down by sport, the Golden Eagle football team led the way with 33 athletes on the list (see accompanying release for details). Soccer and women?s cross country and track finished second with 16 athletes, each, on the list. Those sports were followed by men?s track (10), softball and volleyball (8 each), baseball (7), women?s basketball (6), men?s and women?s tennis (5 each), women?s golf (4), and men?s golf (3).
