Golden Eagle Football Players Earn Fall Academic Honors
The University of Southern Mississippi has released its academic honor rolls for the fall 2001 semester and 33 members of the Golden Eagle football team were included on the list.
?We?re proud of our players and their classroom performance,? Southern Miss Head Coach Jeff Bower said. ?I think our players who performed well in this area in the fall as well as our continued success in the classroom proves not only that we?re consistent in this area but also that we place a high priority on academics. Players who perform well in the classroom are better players on the field.?
A total of 22 players earned Dean?s List honors, which recognizes students with a 3.25 grade point average or better on a minimum course load of 12 hours. The list was headed by John Baumgartner of Mandeville, La., (Dean?s List) and Lanny Beach of Poplarville, Miss., (Dean?s List).
Other Golden Eagles who were members of the fall 2001 Dean?s List include: Darrell Bennett of Lake Charles, La., Dillon Cleckler of Pensacola, Fla., Orlando ?Pop? Dantzler of Purvis, Miss., Daniel Day of Pace, Fla., John Eubanks of Mound Bayou, Miss., Dannye Fowler of Hueytown, Ala., Kwantrell Green of New Orleans, La., Lee Hall of Madison, Miss., LaMarcus Hicks of Clarksdale, Miss., Jason Jimenez of Orlando, Fla., Luke Johnson of Soso, Miss., Curt Jones of Greenwood, Miss., Dewayne Lavelle of Dauphin Island, Ala., Skylor Magee of Poplarville, Miss., Beau Maggio of DeRiddrer, La., Eric Scott of Scottsboro, Ala., Cassidy Welch of Gillette, Wyo., Ethan Whiteside of Athens, Ala., Marvin Young of Clarksdale, Miss.
Eleven players were also recognized on the Athletic Director?s Honor Roll which recognizes student-athletes who achieve a minimum of a 3.0 grade-point average for a semester. Those Golden Eagles were: Michael Boley of Athens, Ala., Thad Cribbs of Vernon, Ala., Mickey D?Angelo of Gulfport, Miss., Addaryl Edwards of Amite, La., Nathan Grace of Ocean Springs, Miss., Mark Haulman of Vicksburg, Miss., Jim Hicks of Philadelphia, Miss., Chris Johnson of Gramercy, La., Alex Ray of Vicksburg, Miss., Matt Strickland of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Jonas Taylor of Tibbie, Ala.
