Lady Eagles Win 3-0 Over Samford
Melissa Shreve totaled 13 kills in the match to lead the Lady Eagles. Four players reach double-figures in kills, including Kelly Tribble (11) and Bridget Files (10). Lisa Downey added a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.
Southern Miss used a 24-5 run to put away the Bulldogs, winning game three, 30-14. Samford led 11-6 before the Lady Eagles took control. Three USM service aces and five team blocks contributed to the win.
Shreve led the Lady Eagles with five kills, committing only one hitting error while recording a .667 hitting percentage (five-for-six). Tribble added four block assists in the game.
Game two had the Lady Eagles winning 30-14 and going error-free in hitting (19-for-39, .487 hitting percentage). The Bulldogs did not get closer than six in the spread once USM reach double-figures in scoring. Tribble and Shreve led in kills for the second game, each recording five.
Southern Miss started the match with a controlling 30-19 win, collecting 20 kills as a team. The Lady Eagles led as much as 14 in game one, when they went up 28-14.
Downey and Files led USM with five kills apiece. The Lady Eagles committed only one hitting error in the opening game.
Southern Miss, 5-2, will face Arkansas State at 2:30 p.m. to conclude its competition at Ole Miss. They head into the final match with a 2-1 record in the tournament. Samford drops to 1-6 on the year.
