The Lady Eagles host Nicholls State in home opener
The Southern Miss volleyball team returns home to host Nicholls State in the home opener, Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.
The Lady Eagles are coming off a 2-1 weekend, finishing second in the Trojan Labor Day Classic at Troy State. Southern Miss posted wins against Belmont and Bethune-Cookman, while losing to host Troy State. Junior outside hitter Melissa Shreve was named to the all-tournament team for her performance. Shreve finished the tournament with 33 kills and 39 digs. Other Lady Eagles who started the season well include Kelly Tribble (48 kills and 12 blocks), Bridget Files (41 kills, 40 digs, 10 blocks) and Andrea Bush (38 kills).
Nicholls State comes into the match with an 0-4 record. Shanda Johnson leads NSU with 32 kills while Katie Leymaster leads the team in digs with 38. Southern Miss leads the series with NSU, 30-14.
Following the Nicholls State match, the Lady Eagles travel to Ole Miss for the Magnolia Invitational, Sept. 7-8.
