Team of Century To Be Honored This Weekend
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The Southern Miss Football Team of the Century Presented By Cellular One will be honored throughtout the weekend at various events culminating with a special halftime recognition at the UAB-Southern Miss Football Game on Saturday, Sept. 29. The team honors the greatest players in the history of a program noted for its ability to be successful, no matter what the circumstances.
There will be a reception on Sept. 28, at 6:30 p.m., at the Forrest County Multi-Purpose Center on Highway 49 South. The reception, sponsored by the M-Club, will feature some of the greatest names in the proud and rich tradition of Golden Eagle football and will give fans a chance to meet these all-time greats, get autographs and take pictures with some of their favorite players.
The team will also participate in an autograph session from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., in the Freshman Quad on the campus of Southern Miss before lining up and taking place in the traditional Eagle Walk with the team at 4 p.m.
The Team of the Century Presented By Cellular One and the special recognition honorees also will be honored at the Southern Miss-UAB football game on Sat., Sept. 29, at M. M. Roberts Stadium. Tickets to the game are also available at the Pat Ferlise Center.
Thirty-five players, representing nearly every era of Golden Eagle athletic history, are on the exclusive squad. The Southern Miss Team of the Century Presented By Cellular One was selected based on the following criteria:
(1) Voting through the athletic department web site, SouthernMiss.com,
(2) In-stadium voting during the Southern Miss-East Carolina game on November 24, 2000 at Roberts Stadium,
(3) Voting of a select committee of former players, administrators and coaches, and,
(4) Recommendations of former players and coaches.
