Lady Eagle Volleyball Team Loses to Tulane, 3-0
NEW ORLEANS ? The Southern Miss volleyball team woes continued, losing to Tulane, 3-0 (30-20, 30-24, 30-27), in Conference USA action, Tuesday night. Southern Miss dropped to 5-7 overall and 0-3 in league play, while Tulane improved to 8-5 and 2-1.
Andrea Bush led Southern Miss with 10 kills. Lisa Downey and Melissa Shreve led the Eagles in digs with 16 and 10, respectively. Britney Hurst led the Green Wave attack with a match-high 19 kills. Anastasia Henon and Deva Fowler added 11 kills each.
Tulane took control of game three with a 10-2 run. Southern Miss chipped away at the lead, managing to cut the lead to two, 17-15. Tulane then ran off four straight points, building its lead back to six, 21-15. However, the Eagles did not give up and continued to fight back, cutting the lead to two points on two other ocassions. Tulane ended the game with a kill to take a 30-27 win.
Game two started with four ties and seven lead changes between the two teams. Tulane ran off nine straight points to break a 10-10 tie, taking an 18-10 lead. The Golden Eagles battled back and cut the lead to three, 27-24, but Tulane recorded three straight kills to end the game and take a 30-24 victory.
Tulane used a 7-1 run to open game one. Southern Miss managed to close within four points, 15-11, but the Green Wave scored three straight points to build a seven point lead, 18-11. Tulane ended the game with an 8-4 run to take game one, 30-20. Hurst notched seven kills for Tulane.
Southern Miss returns home to host Charlotte, Sept. 28, and East Carolina, Sept. 30, in C-USA action.
