Lady Eagles lose at home to South Florida
The Southern Miss volleyball team lost its fourth consecutive match Saturday night to South Florida, 3-1 (30-25, 30-17, 25-30, 30-17). The Lady Eagles fell to 5-6, 0-2 in Conference USA, while South Florida improved to 6-3, 1-0.
Bridget Files led Southern Miss with 10 kills with Brynn Olsson and Amy Truong adding 11 digs each. Nicki Tribble recorded five aces in the match. Michelle Collier led the Bulls with a match-high 16 kills, with teammates Jolene Patton and Shameka Mitchell adding 15 each and Kelly Mathiasmeier chipping in 13 kills.
South Florida won game one behind the efforts of Mathiasmeier and Collier spiking down seven kills each. Files led USM with five kills and no hitting errors.
Patton led the Bulls with six kills in game two. USF displayed a good defensive, out-producing the Eagles in digs, 16-8.
Southern Miss took advantage of 10 USF hitting errors to win game three. Andrea Bush led the attach with six kills. Tribble recorded two aces.
The Bulls took control of game four, jumping out to a 22-11 lead and never looking back. Mitchell put down six kills to lead the Bulls' attack.
Southern Miss returns to action, Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Tulane.
