Eagles Continue Preparation for Louisiana-Lafayette
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss followed what Head Coach Jeff Bower called a poor Tuesday practice with one more to his liking Wednesday as the Golden Eagles continued to prepare for their first game in three weeks, a 5 p.m., Saturday contest at Louisiana-Lafayette.
"I thought we had a better day today," Bower said. "We weren't very good yesterday, but came back today and worked hard, looked a lot sharper, the concentration was a lot better, and I was pleased."
The team also ended the day with a scout team scrimmage, offense against defense. "We had a lot of fun at the end," Bower said. "That's something they've been wanting to do for a long time. The veteran players enjoyed it as well, seeing some of those guys scrimmage for the first time in a long time. We even scrimmaged some of the players who'll travel for the game, and some of them looked really good. It's something we needed to do."
It also rained heavily prior to and during the early stages of Wednesday's practice, and Bower says that could be a plus, "The fields got sloppy in a hurry, but I thought we handled the ball well, so if it rains we should be ready for it."
The Eagles are scheduled to depart late Friday morning by charter bus, work out at Cajun Field at 3:45 and play one of their oldest rivals at 5 p.m., Saturday.
