Southern Miss - Alabama Game Will Be Played
Hattiesburg, Miss. - The University of Southern Mississippi Director of Athletics Richard Giannini has announced that the Southern Miss football game against Alabama scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15, at 4:45 p.m, at Legion Field will be played as scheduled, barring a moratorium by the NCAA or other authority.
?We are deeply saddened that the United States has had to endure such a series of tragedies as those that occurred yesterday,? Giannini said. ?While our thoughts and prayers are with those who are suffering losses, at the same time we join the President of the United States and other leaders of our nation who feel it is important that we not allow those events to change our way of life and restrict our freedoms.?
No Southern Miss or Conference USA athletic competition will be held on Friday, September 14. Athletic department offices will also be closed from 11:30 a.m., until 1:30 p.m., so that employees may participate in mourning for the victims of this tragedy.
A limited number of tickets remain for the Saturday event. Tickets may be purchased by calling 800/240-2300
