Lady Eagle Volleyball Team Plays In Third Tournament
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team hit the road for its third tournament, competing in the UMKC Tournament, Sept. 14-15.
The Lady Eagles are coming off a 2-2 weekend at the Magnolia Invitational. Kelly Tribble was named to the all-tournament team for her performance. She tallied 65 kills, two aces, 28 digs and 12 blocks. Tribble also recorded a career-high 26 kills against UT-Martin. Southern Miss defeated UT-Martin and Samford, but lost to Ole Miss and Arkansas State. Freshman Lisa Downey finished the tournament with three double-doubles and eight service aces. Brynn Olsson had a season-high 25 digs against Ole Miss.
Stephen F. Austin enters the tournament at 5-3. Angie Wood and Kristy Rhodes have combined for over 200 kills. Southern Miss trails the series 4-3. UMKC comes into the tournament with a 1-6 record. Southern Miss and UMKC have never played. Lindsey Zerr leads the team in kills. Williams & Mary brings a 5-1 record into the tournament. Christina Hinds leads the team in kills with 67. William & Mary leads the series 1-0. Yale is 2-1 on the season. Carissa Abbott leads the team in kills. This is the first meeting between Yale and Southern Miss.
Following the UMKC Tournament, the Lady Eagles travel to Mississippi State, Sept. 18, for a 7, p.m. match.
