Southern Miss Receives Votes in AP Poll
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The Southern Miss Golden Eagle football team received votes in The Associated Press' Top 25 Preseason Poll.

The Golden Eagles, who finished 8-4 last season, garnered 10 votes to claim a No. 40 ranking. Southern Miss was one of four Conference USA schools to receive votes in the poll along with East Carolina (65), Louisville (53) and TCU (7).

Florida claimed the No. 1 spot in the preseason poll, while Miami, Fla., Oklahoma, Nebraska and Texas round out the top five. Alabama, which the Golden Eagles play Sept. 15, is ranked 25th.

Southern Miss kicks off the 2001 regular season Sept. 1 against Oklahoma State at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
