Southern Miss Player Earns All-Region Honor
HATTIESBURG, Miss.--Southern Miss' softball player, Felicia Gonzales, earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-South Region honors.
Gonzales, a junior right-handed pitcher from Houston, Texas, was named to the All-South second team. She finished the season with a 29-10 record, with an ERA of 1.37. The Conference USA Pitcher of the Year led the league in opposing batting average (.155), strikeouts (366), games started (36) and wins (29) and was second in innings pitched (255.2) and appearances (44). She helped the Lady Eagles advance to their third NCAA Regional tournament, after leading her team to the Conference USA tournament championship. Gonzales garnered All-Conference First Team and All-Conference Tournament honors. She also was named the most outstanding player in that tournament.
Junior third baseman, Kristie Martin, earned all-tournament honors following the conclusion of the Region III Tournament in Baton Rouge, La. Martin finished the season with a team-leading .300 batting average with 30 hits, including three doubles. She was 16-of-21 in stolen bases.
