Lady Eagles Get Comeback Win Over Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Southern Miss softball team scored two runs in the sixth inning and five in the seventh to overcome Louisville, 7-1, and advance to the championship game of the Conference USA tournament.
Amanda Brown ignited the Lady Eagles with a solo home run in the top of the sixth. Robbi Roberson scored when Channika Gant's shot to shortstop Kristi Rozelle was mishandled, giving USM its first lead of the game.
Tammy Edwards' three-run homer to deep center field highlighted the seventh inning. She scored Kristie Martin and Brown on the shot. Melanie McMains and Sarah Boyd also scored in the frame.
Melissa Jacobo started the Cardinal scoring in the second inning, when Candi Padilla doubled her home.
Jessica Rak (13-10) went hitless in the first four and two-thirds innings until Boyd broke up the no-hitter with a single up the middle. She surrendered five hits in the game, as well as four walks.
Felicia Gonzales went the distance to improve her record to 28-9. She gave up six hits and two walks, while striking out five.
The Lady Eagles face DePaul in the championship, which follows this game.
