Eagles Will End Spring Work With Wednesday Scrimmage
football work with a 3:30 p.m., Wednesday scrimmage, and Head Coach Jeff Bower says the
effort in that scrimmage has to be better than Tuesday's next-to-last practice of the spring.
"We really didn't practice with much enthusiasm today, especially defensively," Bower said.
"We had short periods where we looked good offensively, but they didn't last very long. It was a
very average practice and we don't need that. You have so few practice opportunities in the
spring that you need every one of them to be good ones.
"I don't know if maybe we left our intensity on the field at Saturday's scrimmage, because we
didn't show much spirit today. We also have several players who continue to miss workouts due
to injuries and that, to some extent, dictates how much we're able to get done.
"We really need to have our best practice of he spring tomorrow (Wednesday). That's important
as we head into our offseason. We've got some positions that are very much wide open, and
we'll use Saturday's scrimmage and our final scrimmage Wednesday to help decide how we fill
those positions. It's a chance for players who really want to play to earn the opportunity."
Those players not practicing include quarterback Jeff Kelly, who suffered a broken bone in his
throwing hand thumb during the Saturday scrimmage. He will wear a cast for four to six weeks.
Wednesday's scrimmage is open to the public.
Johnson's two, Greg James caught three for 23 yards.
