Southern Miss Volleyball Defeats TCU, 3-1
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? The Southern Miss volleyball team ended its 10-match losing streak with a Conference USA win over TCU, 3-1, this evening in the Payne Center. Three Lady Eagles collected double-doubles, including Andrea Bush who led with 20 kills and 11 digs.
Senior Kelly Tribble, who played in her final home match at Southern Miss, ended with 15 kills, 11 digs and four service aces. Melissa Shreve finished with 10 kills and 10 digs. Bridget Files added 11 kills, and Brynn Olsson recorded 10 digs.
Courtney Beach led the Horned Frogs with 19 kills. Marci King finished with 15 kills, and Allison Lynch added 10 kills and three service aces.
Southern Miss (8-17, 3-11 in C-USA) commanded game four, winning 30-21. The Lady Eagle never trailed in the final game, leading as much 13.
The Horned Frogs (6-19, 2-11) made a slight run near the end of game four. After a USM 28-15 lead, TCU went on a 6-0 run to tighten the Lady Eagles? advantage at 28-20. Southern Miss used Frog errors to claim its 29th and 30th point to win the match.
Game three featured a tough battle with six lead changes and 10 ties. Southern Miss led for the majority, but TCU made it tight, taking over the lead at 29-28. USM fought back to win by two, 31-29.
Bush gave a solid hitting performance in game three with eight kills on 10 attacks. King and Beach led the Frogs? attack with five kills each.
TCU came out of the gate with a 4-0 lead in game two. Southern Miss took over at 11-10 but did not maintain control, as the Horned Frogs regained the advantage at 19-18 and held on for 30-25 win.
King led the Frogs with six kills in the second game, while Lynch added four. Tribble and Files finished game two with three kills each.
Southern Miss never trailed in game one, winning the opener 30-21. The Lady Eagles claimed an eight-point lead at 19-11. The Frogs closed within five at 26-21, but Nicki Tribble served up the win, collecting final four points on her service opportunity.
Bush and Kelly Tribble recorded four kills apiece to lead USM. Beach finished the first game with four kills to lead TCU.
Road matches at South Florida on Saturday, Nov. 10, and at UAB on Sunday, Nov. 11, conclude the Lady Eagles' season.
