Lady Eagles Lose Tough Match In Five Games, 3-2
Andrea Bush led the Eagle attack with 21 kills, followed by Kelly Tribble with 17 kills, Melissa Shreve and Bridget Files added 15 kills, each. Amy Truong led the Eagles on defense with 16 digs, Crystal Zane had 15, Brynn Olsson and Tribble had 14 digs each.
Tulane's Britney Hurst led all players with a match-high 27 kills, Erin Dobyanski had 20 kills, Anatasia Kenon and Deva Fowler recorded 16 and 13 kills, respectively. Kenon also had 24 digs, and Hurst had 19.
After a back-and-forth start in game one, Tulane went on a 10-1 run to take a 17-10 lead. The Lady Eagles responded with an 8-3 run of their own to cut the lead to 20-19. The Eagles actually led 29-28, but Tulane was able to regroup to take game one, 33-31. Hurst and Dobyanski combined for 14 kills. Bush tallied nine kills for the Eagles.
Southern Miss took control of game two, jumping out to a 12-7 lead and never looked back. The Eagles held off several Tulane rallies and took game two, 30-27. Tribble and Files combined for 11 kills.
The Green Wave jumped out to an early 14-6 lead, cruising to a 30-24 win in game three. Hurst and Kenon recorded six kills each for the Green Wave, while Files had four kills for the Eagles.
After battling to a 9-9 tie, Southern Miss went on a 15-5 run en route to a 30-19 win in game four. Tribble and Shreve led the attack with five kills, each. Dobyanski led Tulane with seven kills.
Tulane (12-5, 5-1) took advantage of five Southern Miss hitting errors, holding off the Eagles for a 15-11 win in game five.
Southern Miss (7-9, 2-4) travels to Memphis and Saint Louis, Oct. 12 and Oct. 13, for a C-USA weekend series.
