Preparation for Memphis Continues; Yates Needs Surgery
Hattiesburg, Miss. - The Golden Eagle football team continued its preparation, today, at the Southern Miss practice fields for its game against Memphis on Saturday at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
Head Coach Jeff Bower talked about the competition and work ethic among the players this week. "The competition at different positions especially on offense has been good for the team this week," Bower said. "It will help build depth at the positions and develop a good overall group. The team needs to stay focused on the game and get done what needs to be done, individually, in order to contribute to the overall team effort."
He also talked about the injury situtation. "Seth Cumbie and Stuart Floyd haven't come along far enough this week so they won't play," Bower said. "Dannye Fowler and Kenny Johnson both practiced through most everything today. Dawayne Woods also practiced and should be okay.
"Corey Yates has to go in and have his knee operated on tomorrow," Bower explained. "It will be a total reconstruction, and he will be out of action for at least six months. Travares Comegys had a dislocated shoulder yesterday and will require surgery. So he is out for a while."
