Cincinnati Sweeps Southern Miss In C-USA Volleyball Action
The Southern Miss volleyball team lost its eighth consecutive match Sunday afternoon to Cincinnati, 3-0 (33-31, 30-24, 30-25). The Lady Eagles fell to 7-15, 2-10 in Conference USA, while Cincinnati improved to 15-5, 12-1.
Andrea Bush led Southern Miss with 16 kills and 12 digs, while Bridget Files added 11 kills. Crystal Zane and Nicki Tribble added 12 and 11 digs, respectively. Becky Stahl led the Bearcats with a match-high 20 kills, with teammates Bonita Wise and Julie DuPont adding 16 and 10 kills, respectively.
Cincinnati out scored Southern Miss, 13-11, down the stretch to take game one, behind the efforts of Stahl spiking down eight kills. Wise and Rachel Torblaa added five kills each. Bush led USM with seven kills.
The Bearcats out scored Southern Miss, 10-4, down the stretch to close out game two. Cincinnati out hit the Lady Eagles, .310 to .089. The Bearcats committed only five hitting errors. Stahl led the way with nine kills in game two. Files and Kelly Tribble had four kills each.
The Eagles jumped out to an early led, only to see it vanish for the third time in the match. The Eagles led by as many as six points, 20-14, before the Bearcats went on a 16-5, closing out game three. Wise posted eight kills for Cincinnati. Lisa Downey came off the bench to record five kills for USM.
Southern Miss returns to action, Tuesday, Oct. 30, against UNO in Reed Green Coliseum.
