DePaul beats Lady Eagles Volleyball Team, 3-2
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? DePaul took the Southern Miss Volleyball team to five games, coming from behind 2-0 to win the match 3-2. Stephanie Bishop led the Blue Demons with 24 kills. Three others added double-digit kills with Lara Marks claiming 16, Melissa Nordine having 14 and Christa Dirr finishing with 12.
Three Lady Eagles collected double-figure kills with Andrea Bush recording 22. Kelly Tribble added 21, and Melissa Shreve finished with 10.
DePaul (15-4, 6-2 in C-USA) came out of the gate to lead the fifth game, 5-0. Southern Miss (7-12, 2-7) made it tight, going on a 11-8 run to close the gap at 13-11. The Blue Demons held on to the lead, winning 15-12.
Game four had the Demons winning 30-21. DePaul led throughout the game, holding a 10-point lead three times and recording a .435 attack percentage and only two hitting errors.
Bishop and Marks tallied seven kills apiece, leading the Blue Demon attack in the fourth game. Tribble led the Lady Eagles with six kills.
DePaul started out with a commanding 8-1 lead in game three. Southern Miss came back to tie at 19-19, but the Blue Demons never trailed the game, winning 30-26.
Statistically, the Lady Eagles performed better in the third game, outhitting DePaul on percentage, .233 to .194. The Blue Demons used three aces and three blocks to help in the win.
Marks led DePaul with five kills in game three. Tribble recorded six kills, and Shreve added five.
Game two featured Southern Miss winning 30-26. The Lady Eagles held 27-20 lead before the Blue Demons made a threat, going on a 6-1 run at the end. Southern Miss didn?t bend, putting away DePaul with three straight serves.
Bush led USM in game two with five kills. Tribble added four, and Nordine and Bishop collected four kills each to lead the Blue Demons.
The Lady Eagles opened with a 30-28 win, led by Bush?s nine kills. She committed no errors in the first game while recording 16 attacks (.563 pct.).
The Blue Demons owned a 6-1 at the start of game one, but USM went on a 19-9 run to capture a 20-15 lead. The Lady Eagles experienced one tie down the stretch, 26-26, but never surrendered the lead, winning 30-28. Tribble added five kills. Nordine led DePaul with six kills.
Southern Miss will look to end a five-match losing streak tomorrow night, hosting Marquette on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m., in the Payne Center.
