Lady Eagle Softball Team Wins Three in Fall Tournament
The Southern Miss softball team won all three games, Sunday, in the Fall Softball Tournament, not allowing a single run.
Southern Miss' Felicia Gonzales got the win in the first game, striking out eight batters and allowing only two hits in a 2-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana. Heather Bell had one hit and scored two runs. Diane Hammes had a single and an rbi.
Melissa Cundiff got the win, in a 3-0 shutout, against Louisiana-Monroe. Cundiff allowed only two hits while striking out four batters. Amanda Brown opened the game with a triple and scored on a Bell squeeze bunt. Bell blasted a solo home run over the center field fence in the fourth inning, and Sarah Boyd got hit by a pitch, stole second base and scored on an error.
In the final game of the day, Jessica Holaway pitched 4.2 innings, striking out five batters and
allowing only two hits in a 4-0 shutout against Nicholls State. Brown had two hits, including one double, an rbi and scoring a run. Auriel Jenkins was 2-for-2 with a double, scored a run and had an rbi. Laura Smith also had a hit and a run batted in.
In other action, Southeastern Louisiana defeated West Alabama, 7-1; West Alabama defeated Louisiana-Monroe, 3-2; and Nicholls State defeated Louisiana-Monroe, 3-0.
