Memphis Sweeps Lady Eagles Volleyball Team
MEMPHIS, Tenn. ? Memphis (13-3, 4-3 in C-USA) handed the Southern Miss volleyball team (7-10, 2-5) its third straight loss, as the Tigers won tonight?s match 3-0. Adrianne Edmonds produced 17 kills to lead the Tigers.
The Lady Eagles were without the efforts of senior Kelly Tribble who became ill this morning and was physically unable to compete. Melissa Shreve was USM?s leading hitter with 11 kills. Bridget Files added 10.
Southern Miss owned a 21-16 over the Tigers in game three, but the tide turned as Memphis went on a 14-6 run, with five straight scores, at the end of game to win 30-27.
Game two had the Tigers winning 30-23. The battle was tight, as Southern Miss pulled within a point of Memphis on three occasions but never captured the lead.
Edmonds led UM with five kills in the second game. Shreve and Files claimed four kills each to lead the Lady Eagles.
Memphis used a 7-1 run at the start of game one to take a controlling lead, winning the opener 30-17. The Tigers displayed a .435 hitting percentage, led by Edmonds who recorded six kills and an .857 hitting percentage. Shreve led the Lady Eagles with three kills.
Southern Miss travels to face Saint Louis on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 7:00 p.m.
