Honorary Inductee Todd McCall (Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, 2003-2026)
Elba, Ala. | Alabama '96
For 24 years, Todd McCall dedicated himself to the betterment of Golden Eagle student-athletes as the associate athletic director for sports medicine at Southern Miss. The Elba, Alabama, native picked up the vaunted mantle of head athletic trainer in 2003, becoming the fourth person to hold the title since 1958.
With great names like Larry “Doc” Harrington, Jim Gallaspy and Matt Smith all coming before him, McCall had quite large shoes to fill. McCall was returning to Southern Miss after five years away from Hattiesburg. He originally arrived in the Hub City as a graduate assistant in 1996 and worked two years with the football team while earning his master’s degree.
As he returned to Southern Miss in 2003, he was awarded the Jack Davis Professional Achievement Award from The University of Alabama for outstanding professional accomplishments in the field of athletic training. He worked his entire career as a certified member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and also worked with NFL Training Camp, the CFL Shreveport Pirates and the Blue/Gray All-Star Game in Montgomery, Alabama.
In 2015, McCall was named the Collegiate/University Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association. In 2021, he was honored by the Southern Miss Division of Student Affairs as a Distinguished Friend of Student Affairs for his work improving the lives of Southern Miss student-athletes. He also received The University of Southern Mississippi’s Staff Excellence Award in 2023.
Following his retirement from Southern Miss in 2026, McCall began work with the Houston Gamblers of the United Football League. He currently resides in Hattiesburg.
