Rhett Whitley (Football, 1978-81)
Was a four-year lettermen at defensive end for the Golden Eagles from 1978 to 1981...Was a starter from 1978 to 1980...Was a second team all-South Independent selection in 1981...As a freshman he recorded 65 tackles and was credited by the coaching staff with eight big plays...In 1979 he had 47 tackles and 13 big plays that included three interceptions...In 1980 he had 73 tackles and nine big plays that included three tackles for losses, two quarterback sacks and an interception...AS a senior he had 52 tackles and seven big plays that included four quarterback sacks and a tackle for a loss...In his four-year career he recorded 144 solo tackles and 93 assists for a total of 237 tackles...He also recorded four tackles for losses, recovered two fumbles, had six quarterback sacks and four interceptions during his career...Help lead the team to a pair of bowl appearances, the 1980 Independence Bowl and the 1981 Tangerine Bowl...One of the captains of the 1981 team.
