One of Southern Miss’ most vaunted names, Jamie Collins served as a versatile member of the Nasty Bunch from 2009 to 2012 and quickly became a nationally respected star. Collins, a native of McCall Creek, Mississippi, arrived in the Hub City in 2009 to play defensive back. He played in all 13 games for the New Orleans Bowl-bound Golden Eagles as a key piece of the defensive backfield.

He moved to linebacker in 2010 and earned honorable mention All-C-USA honors after playing in 12 games and making starts in six of the last seven games of the season. Ahead of the 2011 season, he took over as the “Bandit” defensive end and enjoyed a breakout campaign. He led Southern Miss with 19.5 tackles for loss – 10th most in the nation – and anchored the Nasty Bunch en route to the 2011 Conference USA Title and berth in the Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl. He was named a permanent team captain in 2012 and was named to the Conference USA First Team and Fourth-Team Phil Steele All-American Team.

Collins was selected to play in the 2013 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, and went on to be drafted by New England in the 2013 NFL Draft with the 52nd overall pick (Round two; pick 20). Collins played 10 seasons in the NFL with New England (2013-16, 2019, 2021-22), Cleveland (2016-18) and Detroit (2020). He was a key member of the Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX victory in the 2014 season, starting at linebacker and finishing the game with a team-high eight-combined tackles. He retired from the NFL in 2022.

Collins currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina, with his wife Katrina and five children: Jamie Jr. (12), Jackson (5), Jakobia (4), Kamari (1) and Jakary (1). He coaches inside linebackers for the North Carolina Tar Heels under Coach Bill Belichick.
