Chris Ryals (Football, 1988-91)
Was a four-year letterman and a four-year starter at offensive tackle for the Golden Eagles....Was a big, bruising and aggressive blocker who had a great deal to do with the success of the Southern Miss running attack and overall offense....Opened holes for some of the school's best running backs and protected some of the school's finest quarterbacks including Brett Favre...Allowed very few quarterback sacks during his career and consistently received the highest grades by the coaching staff for his performance...Was a second team all-South Independent selection (AP) in 1989...Helped led the team to the 1988 Independence Bowl where they defeated UTEP 38-18 and was a part of a 27-24 win over No. 13 Alabama and a 13-12 win over Auburn in 1990.
