Men's Basketball Gets Kent State in Second Round of MAC-SBC Challenge

NEW ORLEANS -- Southern Miss men's basketball will host Kent State in the second round of the MAC-SBC Challenge later this season. The Sun Belt and MAC today announced the full pairings of the men's basketball scheduling alliance, with games scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7.
The first-ever meeting between the Golden Eagles and Golden Flashes is set for 2 p.m. at Reed Green Coliseum. The game will air on ESPN+.
The Sun Belt and MAC men's teams played to a series split in 2024-25, with the SBC claiming an 8-4 record in November home games, before the MAC achieved the same feat on its home courts in February. On Monday, November 3 - the 2025-26 season's opening night -the MAC's men's basketball teams earned nine victories over the Sun Belt. The Sun Belt can clinch its second title over the MAC with 10 home wins across the 13 contests.
Kent State is 11-3 overall and 2-0 in MAC play after picking up a 77-73 win over Northern Illinois on Saturday. The Golden Flashes are led by Rob Senderoff, who is the winningest coach in program history with 299 victories. He has guided Kent State to two NCAA Tournament appearances and one trip to the NIT, including a run to the NIT quarterfinals last season.
