Eleven Southern Miss Football Players Named to Preseason Sun Belt Teams by Athlon’s Sports

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Athlon's Sports Magazine released its 2025 Sun Belt Conference preseason teams Wednesday with 11 different Southern Miss players listed on the publication's four teams.
Three Golden Eagles earned first team honors including Braylon Braxton (Frisco, Texas) at quarterback, as well as Ian Foster (Brundidge, Ala.) and Josh Moten (Waldorf, Md.) at defensive back. Moten also was named first team kick returner.
The second team featured defensive lineman Brodarius Lewis (Prattville, Ala.) and Elijah Metcalf (Charlotte, N.C.) as punt returner.
Wide receiver Micah Davis (Atlanta, Ga.), along with defensive lineman Isaiah Gibson (Springfield, Ohio) and linebacker Chris Jones (Byam, Miss.) were third team selections.
The fourth team featured Southern Miss running back Jeffery Pittman (Taylorsville, Miss.), Metcalf at wide receiver, tight end Kyirin Heath (Mansfield, Texas) and defensive lineman Jabari Ismael (Miami, Fla.).
The Golden Eagles totaled 13 spots on the magazine's teams, ranking third only behind Georgia Southern, who had 18 preseason selections, and Troy with 14.
Southern Miss opens its 2025 season at home under first-year coach Charles Huff, Saturday, Aug. 30, against Mississippi State. Game time is set for 11 a.m. and will be aired on ESPN. It will be the first time the Bulldogs have been to Hattiesburg since the opening game of the 2015 campaign.
