NEW ORLEANS-Southern Miss Softball graduate student Mikaila Fox has been named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
The honor marks Fox's first career Player of the Week award, Southern Miss' first weekly award of the season and the third overall since joining the Sun Belt.
"I am so happy for Fox. She has been doing well this entire season, but it was great to see such a stellar performance offensively last week," head coach Natalie Poole said. "She stepped up multiple times for our team when we needed it."
Fox turned in a career week at the plate, collecting eight hits and seven RBIÂ while batting .571 and slugging 1.071. She recorded four straight multi-hit performances, becoming the first Golden Eagle to do so since Hannah Borden, a First Team All-Sun Belt selection, achieved the feat last season.
After recording two hits in a midweek contest at Nicholls, the Ocean Springs, Miss. native led Southern Miss to its third consecutive series victory with six hits and six RBI against ULM. She racked up 15 total bases, highlighted by four extra-base hits with two doubles, a triple and a home run in the series.
Fox opened the weekend with two hits, two RBI, two runs scored and a walk in Friday's 7-6 nine-inning battle, recording her third home run of the season on a two-run shot in the fifth inning.
She followed with a career-high four RBIÂ in Saturday's series-clinching win, driving in runs with a double and her first career triple, propelling the Golden Eagles to their best conference start since 2006. She added two more hits, including her sixth double of the year in the series finale to cap her weekend.
Now in her second season with Southern Miss, Fox has proven herself as one of the team's leading offensive contributors, starting 33 games while batting .359 with 33 hits, 20 RBIÂ and a team-best 50 total bases and .543 slugging percentage.
