The win marks the Golden Eagles' fifth conference win in their last six league games and their best start in conference play since joining the Sun Belt. Their 6-3 start matches the program's best overall conference start since 2009.
The Golden Eagles held on in a back-and-forth battle, closing the game out in extra innings for the fourth time this season. After Claire Ginder led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, Madison Moak entered to pinch run and advanced to second on Shelby Allen's walk. Moak stole third and then scored the game-winning run on a walk-off RBI single by freshman Carrie Green, snapping ULM's five-game winning streak.
In a tightly contested game, Southern Miss battled past four defensive errors behind an 11-hit effort and a strong showing in the circle from Jana Lee and Kayla Giardina. Lee went seven innings, throwing 110 pitches and allowing just two earned runs. Giardina followed with two shutout innings to secure her fourth win of the season, holding off a strong Warhawk offense by stranding nine runners.
The Golden Eagles had their second multi-home run game of the season, again accomplished by Lee and Mikaila Fox. The duo combined for five RBI on their round-trippers and tallied two hits apiece. Green also recorded her sixth multi-hit performance of the year, including the decisive walk-off single.
ULM struck first in the second with an RBI single from Hollie Thomas. Southern Miss responded in the third, tying the game when Allen scored on a sacrifice fly from Maddie Weeks. Later in the frame, Lee launched a three-run homer to give the Golden Eagles a 4-1 advantage.
The Warhawks fought back in the fourth, taking advantage of an error to score two runs. Morgan Brown then tied the game in the fifth with a solo home run. Southern Miss regained the lead in the bottom half, though, thanks to a two-run blast from Fox.
ULM rallied once more in the seventh, stringing together three hits and capitalizing on another error. After Brooklin Lippert scored on an error, the Warhawks loaded the bases and tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Reece Briggs.
Southern Miss advanced a runner to third, but the Warhawks sent the game to extra innings, turning a double play to end the seventh.
Southern Miss threatened in the bottom of the seventh but hit into a double play with the winning run on third, sending the game to extras. After trading singles in the eighth, the Golden Eagles held ULM to a lone hit in the ninth before Green delivered the walk-off hit in the ninth.
