Beach Volleyball Closes Hub City Beach Bash with Decisive Win Over Spring Hill

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss celebrated its senior class after capping off the Hub City Beach Bash with a 3-2 win over Spring Hill at the Southern Miss Beach Volleyball Complex on Friday night. The Golden Eagles (11-16, 3-5 Sun Belt) finished the tournament 2-1 with wins over Spring Hill and New Orleans and a setback to Southeastern.
Southern Miss 5, New Orleans 0
Southern Miss opened up the day with a sweeping victory over New Orleans to move to 10-15 on the season. Dylan Russell (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Y-Nhu Do (Cary, N.C.) won in two sets to open up the day with Jaden White (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Lillie Johnson (Canyon Lake, Texas) following with a win at the fours.
Laurel Dennis (Gulfport, Miss.) and Sadie McAda (Pleasanton, Texas) cemented the decision in favor of the Golden Eagles after their dominating 21-8 win in the second set at the second pairing. Carmen Sanchez Delgado (Málaga, Spain) and Wiio Meinheit (Wilmington, N.C.) kept the seep going with a 22-20 win at the 3s to set the stage for Madison Cassidy (Baton Rouge, La.) and Zuzanna Michalska (Warsaw, Poland) at the top flight.
Cassidy and Michalska dropped the first set and roared back to take set two by a 23-21 final. The went to extra points again in the third set, escaping with a 17-15 win over the Privateers' best duo. Their win cemented the sweep and capped off the first match of the Hub City Beach Bash.

Southern Miss' second match of the day came in hard-fought fashion as the Lady Lions of from Hammond were looking for their first win over Southern Miss in program history. The Lions took the first two points of the day with wins at the fourth and fifth pairing, though Jessica Fairly (Fort Walton Beach, Fla.) and Johnson gave all they could before falling 17-15 in the third set.
In wave two, Southeastern took a two-set win at the 3s before the top two pairings both went to the third set. Southeastern took their fourth point of the day with a 15-9 win in the first pairings' third set. Dennis and McAda moved to 2-0 on the day with a 15-8 decision in the deciding third set.

Southern Miss' seniors took their home sand for the final time of their careers against old foe Spring Hill. Russell, one of five seniors, and Do took a straight-set victory to start the scoring as the fifth flight. White and Johnson fell in two sets at the fours to even the overall score.
Spring Hill took a 2-1 lead with a two-set win at the threes before Southern Miss rattled back-to-back dual wins at the ones and twos. Dennis and McAda evened the score at 2-2 overall with a 21-18 win in the second set. The sophomore pair finished the tournament with a 3-0 record.
With all eyes on them, Cassidy and Michalska rushed out to an early second-set lead and never looked back. The pair finished off Spring Hill's top pairing, 21-12, to give Southern Miss its 11th win of the campaign.
