*This is the first installation of a five-part question and answer series with Southern Miss football players during fall camp.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - We caught up with Jalil Clemons for a quick conversation after Southern Miss football went through its sixth practice of fall camp on Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. The redshirt senior out of Macon, Miss. led the Golden Eagles in sacks last season and registered 31 total tackles at the JACK position. Clemons started his career at Memphis before transferring to Southern Miss prior to the 2022 season.
"I think I have been playing since I was around six. Ever since then, it has been all football."
What is your favorite thing about playing the sport of football?
"I love to hit people and love the physical contact. I love to make big plays and let the crowd get loud - that's my favorite thing."
Who has been the most influential football coach in your career and what was the best advice that they ever gave you?
"Probably my head coach, Coach Jones out of Starkville High School. He gave me advice on how to just be yourself."
What is your favorite football moment of your life?
"It would probably be my freshman year at Memphis against SMU on College GameDay. I got my first sack and we won that game."
Tell us something about yourself that most people may not know about you?
"Everybody probably doesn't know that I like to watch anime. My favorite show in One Piece.
What is your favorite meal?
"It would probably be a burger. Nothing special, just a plain burger."
What do you enjoy doing away from football?
"I like to just chill and play EA College Football 25. Right now, I am addicted to college football. I think my rating will be way higher during and after the season."
What is the main thing you are trying to get out of fall camp?
"I'm just trying to get better anyway I can. I am trying to improve my pass rushing and my run game defense. I'm trying to improve the defense so we can get ready to win a championship."
