Southern Miss Goes Through Third Football Fall Camp Practice Friday Morning

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – For day three of fall camp, the Southern Miss football team moved its practice site to inside The Rock Friday morning.
The two-plus hour practice features the Golden Eagles in skeletons and gave them their first opportunity to get in a little physical play.
The practice also gave first-year Southern Miss defensive coordinator Clay Bignell his initial opportunity to see his squad put into practice what they had worked on during the spring and summer.
"We're building," said Bignell. "We're already putting in most of the stuff we had in the spring. Now we're putting that stuff in and making sure that guys can handle the installs and go out there and execute play in and play out. It's starts to build on it and once you start stacking those installs quicker you see which guys can process and still allow us to go out there and play fast."
Despite the early morning heat, the Golden Eagles continued to get stronger through the workout.
Following the practice, Bignell was asked about his approach on the Golden Eagles giving defensive looks this season.
"We try to give them multiple different looks," said Bignell. "We try to give them the same shells and then give them different looks and different rotations to make it hard on the offense to adjust to us. Offenses do a bunch of stuff these days that makes it really hard on defenses, so we try to do the same thing to the offense as best we can. We try and dictate the game as much as we possibly can. Obviously, they're in control of a lot of it but with what we can control we want to dictate that."
The Golden Eagles will return to the practice fields for day four of fall camp Saturday morning.
