Old Dominion Tops Men's Tennis at SBC Championships

ROME, Ga. – Southern Miss (7-11, 3-5 Sun Belt) men's tennis fell 4-0 to No. 2 Old Dominion (18-7, 7-1 Sun Belt) on Friday afternoon in Rome, Ga. Despite the season-ending loss, Southern Miss posted a program high in Sun Belt wins with three.
Old Dominion took an early lead after claiming the coveted doubles point. The Monarchs took matches on courts two and three, while Dakotah Bobo and Henry Lamchinniah went unfinished on court one while leading 5-1.
Olimjon Nabiev took the second set against Yanis Moundir but went unfinished on court three. The Golden Eagles dropped singles matches on courts one, five and six to allow the Monarchs to claim the quarterfinal win. They move on to Saturday's semifinal round against Georgia State or Troy.
The Golden Eagles ended their season with a 7-11 mark in Engineer's 11th season at the helm. Nabiev posted a team-best eights wins and led Southern Miss in that department for the second consecutive season. Freshman Henry Lamchinniah had a stellar rookie campaign as he posted seven wins. Lamchinniah and Bobo, along with Shamirul Shahril and Pasawee Reansuwong, posted a team-best five wins in doubles action.
