Golden Eagles Pick Up Two Wins Over Alcorn State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Both the Southern Miss men's (3-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) and women's (4-4, 0-0 Sun Belt) tennis teams picked up convincing wins over Alcorn State on Saturday afternoon in Hattiesburg. The women's tennis team won 4-1, while men's tennis dominated in a 6-1 win over the Braves.

Suhana Das picked up her team-leading third win of the season with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Zoe Crimmel on court three. The Golden Eagles also got wins from Malannia Vashkevish and Sydney Smyczynksi – Smyczynski won by default as Alcorn State had no player on court six. Vashkevish won 6-1, 6-3 on court five to earn her second win of the season.

Southern Miss won the doubles point with a default victory on court three. Hannah Chambers and Smyczynski clinched the doubles point with a 6-0 win on court two. Alyssa Richter and Das also picked up a 6-4 win on court one. The Golden Eagles moved to 11-10 in doubles matches and 14-16 in singles play.

The men's tennis team won its third-straight match with its win today. Dakotah Bobo and Henry Lamchinniah won a 6-4 decision on court one and then Pasawee Reansuwong and Shamirul Shahril picked up a 6-0 win on court two. Olimjon Nabiev and Olle Noltorp both picked up their third win of the season, which leads the team. Rasmus Becker and Reansuwong also picked up wins. Shahril fell in three sets on court one.

The men's tennis team will open Sun Belt play on March 5 against Coastal Carolina. The match will start at 2 p.m. at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex. Women's tennis will host Texas State on March 9 at 10 a.m.
